CREW - SOUND RECORDIST & MIXER
Project Title: Shared Fare
Location: Greater Boston Area (on location, practical car interiors + exteriors)
Shoot Dates: TBD
Compensation: Paid (rate TBD)
About the Film:
Shared Fare is a short, dialogue-driven dark comedy set almost entirely inside a rideshare SUV.
Role Description:
Seeking a skilled Production Sound Mixer / Recordist to join the crew. Because the film is largely confined to car interiors, capturing clean dialogue and the right ambient texture will be critical. Some scenes will involve the picture car in motion, so we’ll be relying on lavs and plant mics inside the vehicle, with the mixer monitoring from outside (or a follow car) as needed. Music plays an important role in the story, so balancing playback with dialogue will also be key. (Julia's note: FWIW, this person might also need guidance on when music is necessary on the shoot vs when can be added in post.)
Responsibilities:
- Record high-quality sync sound (dialogue-heavy scenes in confined car interiors).
- Manage lavs, boom, and/or plant mics within small spaces.
- Monitor and minimize road/traffic noise bleed while shooting practical exteriors.
- Provide sound reports and backups daily.
- Collaborate with director and DP on timing of playback cues (diegetic music in car).
Requirements:
- Experience mixing sound for short films or dialogue-driven projects.
- Own or have access to appropriate gear for car interiors (lavs, small boom setups, wireless systems, mixer/recorder).
- Ability to work with a small, nimble crew and adapt quickly on location.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Nice to Have:
- Experience recording in moving vehicles.
- Familiarity with post-production workflows (hand-off of clean files, labeling).
- Local to Boston or able to self-report.
How to Apply:
Please send résumé/credits, gear list, and rate to [email protected]. Links to past work samples (especially dialogue-heavy projects) are appreciated.
