VALKYRIE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
BUFFALO, NY

VIFF 2026 will be held at Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, 341 Delaware Ave, Buffalo, NY 14202 ! The original venue, The Screening Room Cnema & Arts Cafe, was sadly forced to close.

Hallwalls is a Buffalo Institution, highly respected in the arts community,  in a neighborhood filled with restaurants, cafes and bars. The screening room seats up to 80 people.

This will be the first time we've held VIFF in the summer, and in the city itself, which will allow visiting filmmakers and patrons to really explore everything the city offers and to visit Niagara Falls in warm weather!

Through Michael’s final twelve seconds, the story shows that while grief, regret, and tragedy are unavoidable parts of being human, they do not erase the beautiful, quiet moments of connection we share with others. It is a powerful reminder that it is never too late to forgive, to choose to keep moving forward, and to ensure that the people we care about know they are loved. 

Emily

Emily is the late wife of Michael and the source of his greatest joy and deepest sorrow. In the early flashbacks, she is "radiant and alive," forming the "golden warmth" of Michael’s domestic life. Her character serves as the catalyst for Michael’s emotional spiral; her illness and the "flatlining" monitor in the hospital represent the moment Michael’s world turned to darkness. She is the woman Michael met by a firepit when "the world was young," and her memory remains so potent that Michael falls to his knees at the mere mention of her name. She represents the "fleeting moments" that The Guide insists truly matter.

The Mother

Appearing in the first memory of Michael’s transition, the Mother is a figure of pure nostalgia and childhood innocence.

Seen in a backyard with sprinklers, she is "radiant and alive,".  She represents the foundational love that Michael lost long ago, serving as the starting point for his twelve-second retrospective of a life lived through both sunshine and rain.
